Happy 157th Birthday Tesla!

Today marks the 157th birthday of the scientific genius and visionary Nikola Tesla. Tesla is perhaps the most profound inventor of the modern era, and you might be surprised to find out just how many "smart" devices we use in today's tech-savvy culture that can be attributed to his revolutionary mind.

Here's a fun and educational doodle created by the artists over at theoatmeal.com that gives a little snippet of Tesla's life accomplishments and prophetic visions of a future aligned with technology. And here is a comedic biographical drama of Tesla's life story. Enjoy! And now go out and imagine your own groundbreaking ideas!

Revolution by Coolie L

Aloha mai kākou!

Recently, I have been attempting to crank out some new art with aims of submitting my subject matter in specific art and design contests (usually T-shirt designs). All this at the encouragement of a artist friend of mine. So here is my latest attempt to capture a special message of my own in a display of artistic experimentation. The theme is that of a punk nature, and here is my best attempt to express those sentiments in a series of nonrandom lines scribbled by my #2 pencil. Enjoy!

P.S. Here is a link to an alternate vision of my creation.

Real Beauty Sketches

Here is an interesting little psychological experiment on self perception and esteem in American society. Is the face you gaze upon in the mirror every morning really the same face that the rest of the world sees everyday?

Remember to smile
Love and be Loved. Aloha~

Thinking On A Saturday.

My Brothers & Sisters of Earth:

The boundaries of your enlightenment are constricted by the worldly dogma produced by the hegemonic powers of your own species' history, which you tacitly accept.

Free your mind.

Aloha.

The Universal Language Is In Our Minds

"UC Berkeley linguistics lecturer Patrick Boudreault, who is deaf, explains that language is a fluid thing that's not just spoken. It's something universal that happens in our minds, whether it's communicated with our hands or our voice."

Have you ever stopped to really think about language?
How it magically enables us to communicate with each other?
How it mysteriously allows us to think
and define the incredible world which surrounds us?
How without it, our reality would not be our own?

In a culture of affluence, it is all too easy to take material things for granted. Which consequently makes it even easier still to walk through this life and overlook the most fundamental miracles of simply being.

Be grateful. And you will be happy, my friends.
Aloha~

National Geographic -- Extreme Photo of the Week

Here's a little something the adrenaline junkies and photogs will surely enjoy. The National Geographic website selects an extreme photo of the week and posts them here for all to enjoy. There truly are no limits to what the human body/mind/soul can accomplish. If only our species could invest the same amount of energy into our interpersonal relationships...

Imagine what a world that would be.

The Overview Effect

Perspective really does create a vehicle of radical enlightenment as it is quite the profound metaphor for ourselves as individuals as well as a collective species. Push yourself and your mind to think beyond your own immediate scope of knowledge and undertake the mental stretches required to strengthen your capacity for personal growth. The Overview Effect that these scientists discuss verges on the spiritual connectedness that ties together all life contained within our tiny blue orb of energy floating in space. Take care of one another, and together we can take care of the Earth. Brought to you in HD. Enjoy!

Sam Richards - A Radical Experiment In Empathy

Sam Richards delivers one of the most thought-provoking TEDtalks where he challenges the viewer to participate in a radical and emotional exercise in empathy.

Richards' leads us through this sociological experiment so that we could better understand the "other" people beyond our immediate political-social proximity. You may find his talk mentally exhausting as he unapologetically touches on sensitive political topics, but if you allow yourself to open your mind and step outside of your own preconceived socio-cultural constructs, I guarantee that you will experience something new. True empathy has the power to destroy and reconstruct the way you perceive yourself and the culture of which you are a part. Learn how to understand your fellow human.

Be Enlightened. Change your Heart. Change the World.

The Transformational Life: Robb Smith // Zion I & The Grouch - Digital Dirt

In this exceedingly busy world, the pace of life seems to generate more and more momentum everyday. We now live in a society filled with smart phones and dumb people. In a society overrun by constant distractions and information overload, sometimes it feels impossible to cope. Technology has become modern culture's gift and curse, but in reality it is up to each one of us as individuals when it comes to how we let it affect our own lives.

As a new response, we must learn how to slow down and unplug ourselves from the network. We must retrain ourselves how to listen intently, read entirely and remember consciously.
