Sam Richards - A Radical Experiment In Empathy
Sam Richards delivers one of the most thought-provoking TEDtalks where he challenges the viewer to participate in a radical and emotional exercise in empathy.
Richards' leads us through this sociological experiment so that we could better understand the "other" people beyond our immediate political-social proximity. You may find his talk mentally exhausting as he unapologetically touches on sensitive political topics, but if you allow yourself to open your mind and step outside of your own preconceived socio-cultural constructs, I guarantee that you will experience something new. True empathy has the power to destroy and reconstruct the way you perceive yourself and the culture of which you are a part. Learn how to understand your fellow human.
Be Enlightened. Change your Heart. Change the World.

Rebelution - Courage To Grow

LYRICS:
This is a song for those
Who lost their hope
A long a long time ago
I know someday that you will find it somehow
Because you're not too old
To accomplish goals
And all the answers are within your soul
It's up to you, you gotta figure it out
Uh huh
Whether you want love or money
Good fortune or fame
You want a brand new car
You want the world to change
You better take some action right now, oh yes
Because there's nothing in the world that you can't get
So don't fill your life with confusion and regret
You better take some chances right now
Well you can gain the world
But for the price of your soul
Yes I know, well I know, yes I know
You can gain the world for the price of your soul
But I hope you take the road less traveled
And I hope you find the courage to grow
Well I hope you find the courage to grow
So now you're 45
And you realize
Just what you wanna do with your life
Just took some time for you to figure it out
Cause everyone one of us
Has a purpose here
Sometimes it's hidden underneath your fear
Just takes some time for the truth to come out
So whether you want love or money
Good fortune or fame
You want a brand new car
You want the world to change
You better take some action right now, oh yes
Because there's nothing in the world that you can't get
So don't fill your life with confusion and regret
You better take some chances right now
Well you can gain the world

The Transformational Life: Robb Smith // Zion I & The Grouch - Digital Dirt
In this exceedingly busy world, the pace of life seems to generate more and more momentum everyday. We now live in a society filled with smart phones and dumb people. In a society overrun by constant distractions and information overload, sometimes it feels impossible to cope. Technology has become modern culture's gift and curse, but in reality it is up to each one of us as individuals when it comes to how we let it affect our own lives.
As a new response, we must learn how to slow down and unplug ourselves from the network. We must retrain ourselves how to listen intently, read entirely and remember consciously.

Nina Simone - Baltimore (1978)
Happy Monday Everyone~ Gettin' back on the daily grind!
LYRICS:
Beat-up little seagull
On a marble stair
Tryin' to find the ocean
Lookin' everywhere
Hard times in the city
In a hard town by the sea
Ain't nowhere to run to
There ain't nothin' here for free
Hooker on the corner
Waitin' for a train
Drunk lyin' on the sidewalk
Sleepin' in the rain
And they hide their faces
And they hide their eyes
'Cause the city's dyin'
And they don't know why
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live, just to live
Get my sister Sandy
And my little brother Ray
Buy a big old wagon
Gonna haul us all away
Livin' in the country
Where the mountain's high
Never comin' back here
'Til the day I die
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live
Oh, Baltimore
Man, it's hard just to live, just to live

Music & Wine
Upon some deep consideration,
I have come to graciously embrace this analogy
that Music is very much like Wine.
Often times new and different varieties offend the untrained palate
but what we fail to realize is
that it is not the music that is poor in quality or flavor
but our own tastes that are narrow, lacking and ill-formed.
To branch out
and explore the diverse varieties is part of the fun and enjoyment
To sample, so to speak, and find the particular blends that really truly suit you
Not just you as a connoisseur,
but you as a person
A unique soul
that is what we are searching for.
Each style has its own specific purpose
its own mood, its own feeling
Pop can be the 2 buck chuck
It gets the job done in some respects.
In the same vein however,
we must not forget
that there is a such thing as a good wine and a bad one
That is for certain.
So my friends, drink it all in
go and expand your playlist! So many songs to be heard, so little time!

The Black Seeds - Take Your Chances (2009)
Last year on Easter Sunday, I ventured to this awesome little venue called Slim's in San Francisco to see these gentlemen from Aotearoa (NZ) perform live. It was quite possibly the most fun I've had at a live show thus far. Remember my friends, to live and to take your chances!

Rebel Zion - Ko'u Mana'o
Happy Aloha Friday kākou! I hope everyone's week was productive. For this week's Free Music Friday I bring you Ko'u Mana'o by Rebel Zion. In Hawaiian, ko'u mana'o is a very powerful linguistic concept described through a variety of denotative words and connotative meanings.
ko'u possessive. My, or mine.
mana'o nvt. Thought, idea, belief, desire, want, opinion, theory, thesis, intention; to think, to meditate, to expect.
In this life, what is your "ko'u mana'o"?

Bob Marley - Could You Be Loved
Tomorrow is Bob's birthday. And with that I would like to share some of his music with you and encourage you to learn more about the man. He was more than just a musician, and a rasta, and a world famous celebrity. He embodied a movement, a genre, and a hope for a better world. If you would like to learn more, check out the links below! I highly recommend MARLEY a documentary by Kevin Macdonald, as I believe it accurately captures Bob's story and his meaning. Enjoy!

Kings and Comrades - On The Rise feat. Ryan Leimkuhler
It's Monday everyone, Rise and Shine! Keep on Rising~
LYRICS:
See the sun, on the rise
In the morning time
And it’s shining so bright
Gonna be a good day, no matter what they say
Cause were livin’ it right
In a world of foolishness and greed
Stay positive while were planting them seeds
Of love, and righteousness come forth bringing you a positive mentality
Oh I, Oh I, don’t wanna feel like I’m
Wasting time, misreading the signs of this life
So people got to rise up, stand for truth and rights
Gonna keep the dance movin,
Bringing you a positive to vibe to the late of the night yea
Life is short, this I know
And we can’t stand still, cause everyday we grow
Watch them seeds turn to trees, simple message in the breeze
We gotta keep striving
And when they try pulling you down,
Stand up tall, plant those roots in the ground
No one can ever block out the sun, you just gotta reach higher
Oh I, Oh I, don’t wanna feel like I’m
Wasting time, misreading the signs of this life
So people got to rise up, stand for truths and rights
Gonna keep the dance movin’,
Bringing you a positive to vibe to the late of the night yea

Mishka - 3rd Eye Vision
Continuing along in today's theme of the human mind: What does it mean to be "third eye blind?" Although many associate the concept of the third eye with mysticism and Eastern philosophy and religion, there have also been many well-known Western discussions on the concept of the human soul and consciousness. René Descartes actually called the pineal gland the "principle seat of the soul."
By the way, Mishka is probably the reggae artist today who reminds me the most of Bob Marley's musical style and content. Enjoy!
LYRICS:
[Verse 1]
I heard you saying it won't make a difference
It's only you and it's just this once yeah
It's only this time
Don't you think that it all adds up
There's a reaction for each action many drips fill the cup
Where do you draw the line
Know thyself and to thine own self be true
Any other way is gonna make you feel blue yeah
Ya gotta reason to be here
Hey maybe if we focus and we get it together
We could raise the human consciousness and make things better yeah
I know you think I'm a dreamer
[Chorus]
But I know that you're also seeking peace of mind
Wonderin' why you feel so tired why your third eye's blind
I know that you're also trying to find your place
Somewhere out in time and somewhere out in space
[Verse 2]
Get so exhausted from all the exhaust
From living in fear yeah from living in a box hey
How come we always have to drive
I keep wishing corporations, and the politicians
Would make tighter restrictions on our fossil fuel emissions and meanwhile
Why don't we walk
If we all did a little then a lot would be done
We could clean up the mess and try to have some fun yeah
I'm off to plant a tree now
Cause if everybody takes and nobody gives
There'll soon be no air to breathe and no where to live
But you can't stop mother nature
[Chorus]
[Verse 3]
Did you remember to give thanks for the food
The earth, the air, the water, and everything good
The fire's still burnin'
Talk to yourself cause no one knows you better
Even take the time to write yourself a letter
To know the wheels are still turnin'
There's no better time than now to stand up straight
Take a deep breath Lord it's never too late to
Exhale your confusion
They say its all been done and there's no sense trying
But they don't really know you and they're probably lying
You got to see for yourself yeah
[Chorus]
I know that you're also seeking
I know that you're also out there
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
By the way, Mishka is probably the reggae artist today who reminds me the most of Bob Marley's musical style and content. Enjoy!
